The Grove Collaborative Review

It isn’t always easy finding “green” products that are both quality and actually live up to their claims. Luckily, there is a solution and it involves the best products being delivered directly to your front door! Check out my the Grove Collaborative review!

So what is Grove Collaborative all about? The company was started with the belief that environmental friendly products should be available to everyone.

They only sell products that meet their standard of being non-toxic, cruelty free, effective and sustainable. They work as a flexible, recurring shipment company that is fully customizable. Each product has a recommended shipping frequency that can be adjusted within your account settings.

They also carbon offset each shipment!

I decided to try out Grove Collaborative and ordered a few of their items that I could easily convert to in our household. I find that it is easier to take baby steps when trying to be more environment friendly. If I try to do too much at once, it tends to be difficult to sustain (and also to afford). Here are the items that I ordered for to try out and (hopefully) convert to:

The Products

100% Recycled Plastic Trash Bags – We are currently trying out these trash bags. They are made out of 100% post consumer recycled plastic. The roll of bags comes wrapped in a simple, paper sleeve rather than in a box – responsible packaging. Also, every purchase contributes to removing garbage from America’s rivers. They claim to be ultra strong and durable. $5.95 for 20 – 13 gallon trash bags.

I love these bags. I am a habitual over-stuffer of the trash can and they have never ripped or leaked. This is an item that I will continue to purchase.

If You Care Recycled Aluminum Foil – Aluminum Foil that is made from 100% recycled aluminum. $5.99 for 50 square feet.

This aluminum foil is a no-brainer for me. Although it isn’t as thick as other brands, it still works well .

If You Care Parchment Baking Paper – Parchment baking paper that does not contain Quilon (that contains heavy metals that are toxic when incinerated) or chlorine (which would be dumped into lakes or streams). $5.99 for 70 square feet.

I really loved this parchment paper. It’s worked well with everything I have used it for. Everything that I have baked on this has come off easily and was baked perfectly on the bottom. This is a product that I will continue purchasing.

Grove Collaborative Glass Straws – I’ve been using paper straws in the house for years now but I am going to give these glass straws a try. The best part is that they are dishwasher safe. More than 500 million straws are used each day in just the US alone. Set of four straws and a cleaner for $12.95.

I love these straws. They look great and are easy to clean. I wouldn’t recommend purchasing these for kids to use because they could easily break if dropped.

Grove Collaborative Walnut Scrubber Sponges – Walnut scrubber sponges that are made with 100% all natural vegetable cellulose. The scrubber is made with crushed walnut shells. These sponges are not suitable for those with nut allergies. $4.95 for two.

The sponges have a little bit of an odd smell to them at first. For me, the cost is steep because I change out sponges fairly often (there is no worse smell than dirty sponge!). They don’t hold up as well as other sponges. This isn’t a product that I will continue to purchase.

Grove Collaborative 100% Organic Unbleached Cheesecloth – Cheesecloth made with 100% organic unbleached cheesecloth that can be reused. $3.95 for two square yards.

I haven’t used this product yet but will update when I do!

Free Products

Another great benefit of the Grove are the free products offered to new customers as well as the free products you receive each time you place an order!

One of the free gifts that I received with my first order was this reusable glass bottle with silicone sleeve and one of their orange rosemary concentrates made with plant-derived ingredients and essential oils. Not only are these healthier cleaning products to be using around the house, reusing the glass bottle prevents the purchase of cleaning products in plastic bottles.

This cleaner works really well and I love the scent. They are currently sold out of the refill concentrates but I will be reordering them as soon as they are back in stock.

With my first order I also received a free Mrs. Meyers starter kit which included a cleaning caddy, dish soap, hand lotion, and hand soap. I was able to choose the scents that I wanted.

The Verdict

Grove sells many products that I was already using in my house (such as the Babyganics cleaning products) but they also have many products that I haven’t found in the stores around me.

I would highly recommend starting an account with this company and trying out some of their great products. I was happily surprised with the quality of all of the products that I initially ordered and can’t wait to give more of their products a try!
