In my opinion, the best guacamole has very few ingredients. That being said, with a recipe like this, it is so important to use really fresh ingredients. Especially avocados – they are the star of the show after all!
This recipe is perfect served with simple tortilla chips or can be used as a topping for your favorite Mexican dishes. I especially love eating this on carnitas!
Make sure to store any leftovers in a container with an air-tight lid. Place a piece of plastic wrap directly on top of the guacamole making sure to push out as much air as possible. Place the lid on the container and store in the refrigerator for up to five days.
I like my guacamole to be smooth so I tend to mash the avocados quite a bit but feel free to leave it more chunky if that is what you prefer.
Avocados
Red Onion
Cilantro
Jalapeno
Lime
Kosher Salt
Tortilla Chips
Of course this is delicious on it’s own but there are so many different ways to make it a little special.
To dress it up a little, top with diced tomatoes, pomegranate seeds or cotija cheese. Below are a few more options to mix in or top your guacamole with!
Years ago, on a trip to Maine, I had guacamole that was topped with crumbled queso fresco and fresh lobster meat. It was amazing.
Fruit – Tropical fruits such as pineapple and mango are absolutely delicious. You can even add pomegranate seeds for a little added texture.
Cheese – Crumbly, soft cheeses are the best for this. Give feta, queso fesco or cortija cheese a try!
Sour Cream – Adding a dollop of sour cream will give your guacamole a smooth, creamy texture.
Seasonings – Add a dash of cumin for a smoky taste or a little bit of chili powder to spice it up a little.
Protein – Chopped bacon, crumbly chorizo or even lobster tails will really make this guacamole stand out!
Peel, pit and mash avocados to your desired consistency.
Stir in diced onion, jalapeno, cilantro, salt and the juice of 1/2 of a lime.
Stir to combine all ingredients.
Serve with tortilla chips and enjoy!
