Spain has always been a popular travel destination for those traveling Europe. How could it not be? There are so many amazing cities to visit and mountains to see but don’t forget about the picturesque Balearic Islands!

Spain has always been my favorite country to visit. Keep reading for my recommendations of what to see and where to stay in Mallorca!

Only five of the more than 150 islands located in the Balearic archipelago are inhabited. Mallorca (also known as Majorca) is the largest and one of the most often visited due to its beautiful beaches, mountainous regions and culture.

Luckily, I’ve had the chance to visit Mallorca twice!

So what should you do when you visit Mallorca? Check out some of my recommendations below!

What to See

Caves of Hams

If you are wanting to explore the eastern side of the island, take a trip to the Caves of Hams. These magical caves hold an underground lake known as “The Sea of Venice”.

A rowboat tour through the cave will allow you to view the stalactites and stalagmites that make this location so unique.

This cave is more than 10 million years old!

This isn’t the only cave to see – there are many located on Mallorca!

Visit One of the Many Stunning Beaches

Just a short, five minute drive from the Caves of Hams is Porto Cristo beach. This beach is on the smaller side but it’s the perfect place to relax in the sun.

This area is also great for wandering around the many shops, enjoying a meal in one of the many restaurants or just spending time relaxing while watching the waves.

I picked up some sangria and calamari at a beachside vendor to snack on while enjoying the crystal clear water and picturesque views.

Rent a Boat

Whether you rent a boat and cruise around the coast on your own or you hire a private guide for your cruise, you are going to get the best views of the island from the water.

You’ll find options from self-driven boats to captain-driven catamarans, sailboats or speed boats. Whichever you choose, you will be in awe of how beautiful this island really is.

Spend the day exploring the coastline and soaking up the sun!

Castell de Bellver

This 700 year old gothic-style castle was built to be the residence of the Kings of Mallorca. Later on it was turned into a prison. Currently, this beautiful castle serves as the city’s History Museum.

The circular castle is just a short drive from Palma, offers great views of the city and will teach you some of the history of this beautiful island!

Take a Cooking Class

What better way to learn about the culture and food of this amazing island than to take a cooking class from a local. Oftentimes you will be able to find a small-group class taught right in the home of a Majorcan cook!

Even if you aren’t a top chef, this is an unforgettable experience that should be on the top of your list!

The Cathedral of Santa Maria de Palma

Commonly called ‘La Seu’ by locals, this stunning 14th century Mediterranean Gothic cathedral is located just steps from the Mallorca cruise port. It’s worth a visit to see the jaw-dropping interior of the building that was once worked on by Gaudi himself.

A visit to the terraces will also offer up panoramic views of the city’s busy port.

Shop for some Majorica Pearls

Although these are not real pearls (they are actually man-made), they are known around the world as being the best!

I purchased a Majorica pearl bracelet years ago, on my first visit to Mallorca, and I still wear it all of the time!

Where to Stay

La Residencia

I love this hotel so much it even has a blog post of its own. Check out The Picturesque La Residencia in Mallorca!

Located in Deia, about 40 minutes north of Palma, this resort is magic. Everything about my stay was perfect. From the amazing food and the unique excursions to the calm & relaxing suite – I can’t wait to visit again!

Hotel Cort

If you are looking for a hotel on the southern coast of Mallorca, I would highly recommend Hotel Cort. This boutique hotel is located in city center of Palma de Mallorca and is gorgeous.

For a dinner spot with a ton of character, check out their restaurant Raw & Grill. Dine in the courtyard under the olive trees or inside their beautiful, candle-lit space.

I still daydream about the meal I had here. Every dish I had was fantastic but especially their grilled octopus with black olive tapenade.
