Folklore states that if you catch a leprechaun, he will grant you three wishes and tell you where he has hidden his big pot of gold!

This is a fun activity that allows kids to put their creativity to use. Because these can be made so many different ways, I love watching what my kids come up with when giving them a bunch of crafting supplies and letting them build.

Slides, trap doors and nets are all tricky design features that may help you gain your three wishes.

You can either start out by sketching a plan before building or you can get right to it and begin building!

We normally create these a few days before St. Patrick’s Day. The morning of, the kids wake up to some leprechaun footprints on the counter and a note from the sneaky little leprechaun himself.

Below I have listed some crafting items that you can use for your very own leprechaun trap but the possibilities are endless!

Just pull together any random crafting supplies that you have but especially anything green, gold, glittery or the colors of the rainbow.

The dollar store is a great place to pick up some of the crafting supplies such as pipe cleaners, wooden sticks, stickers, paint, etc..

What You Will Need

Small box (a shoe box works well)

Cardboard paper towel or toilet paper tubes

Construction paper, tissue paper, poster board

Glue, tape, glue sticks

Pipe cleaners

Gold glitter, coins, glitter glue

Paint, markers or crayons

Stickers

How to Make a Leprechaun Trap

Once you have all of your supplies gathered together, put all of your good ideas to use!

This year we made one trap with gold coins in the bottom of a jar. We are hoping that he climbs the ladder and falls down into the jar. Once in there, the green hat will trap him inside!

We also created one with a tissue paper trap door. Once he climbs up to grab the gold coins, the tissue paper will rip causing him to fall inside and be trapped!

Leprechaun traps aren’t just limited to crafting supplies though. We’ve also made them out of green Legos and green slime too!

Looking to trap a sneaky little leprechaun this St. Patrick’s Day? You’ll need to create a really great trap!
