Our Jurassic Quest Drive Thru Experience!

Are you looking for a Covid19 safe family activity for your little dinosaur lover? In this post I am going to show you a little bit of our Jurassic Quest Drive Thru Experience!

We originally had tickets to attend the Jurassic World Live Tour at the Montreal Bell Center last year. However, the show was cancelled due to Covid19 and we were issued a refund. Due to that tour being an indoors event, we haven’t yet been able to reschedule.

The Jurassic Quest Drive Thru Experience is held completely outdoors with attendees staying in their vehicles for the duration.

The tour has upcoming events scheduled throughout the United States – with more dates to come once the weather warms up this summer.

The Experience

Tickets must be purchased online ahead of time and almost always sell out!

The event that we attended was held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego.

The day before the event, I was sent a text message link for the audio guide which is a YouTube video. You can listen to the audio guide on your phone or through Bluetooth (if your vehicle is capable).

When we first arrived to the fairgrounds, they had a drive-thru snack stand selling kettle corn, funnel cakes, drinks, etc.. Of course, we had to buy a large bag of kettle corn and then we made our way to the entrance.

As you approach the entrance, the attendants are ready and waiting to scan your digital ticket through your window. After that, you proceed to the start of the tour.

The drive takes less than an hour and features more than 70 dinosaurs – including a 50 foot Megalodon. Most importantly, we were able to see all of our favorites – the quetzalcoatlus, triceratops and tyrannosaurus rex!

The audio tour will provide you with historic information and fun facts as you view the animatronic dinosaurs through the Cretaceous, Jurassic and Triassic Periods.

The Verdict

I immediately regretted not having reserved tickets for one of their after-sunset viewings. I certainly think viewing the dinosaurs at night would have made it slightly more exciting and helped hide the fact that you are just driving through a parking lot.

Overall, I do appreciate all the work that it must take to modify shows like this due to Covid19.

The tour did a great job keeping traffic moving and the audio tour was very informative (we even realized we had been pronouncing some dinosaurs incorrectly all along!).

In order to exit, attendees have to wait in line to drive through the souvenir shop. Luckily, we were able to distract the kids enough to get through without any meltdowns.

The ticket also included a digital photo. Unfortunately, the “free” photo was a dud. The positioning of the photographer caused all of our faces to be blurred out by the sun light.

The kids’ favorite part was being able to be unbuckled from their seats to watch the dinosaurs from their windows (the speed limit through the exhibit is 5mph) and the animatronic baby dinosaurs that are at the entrance of the event.

We would definitely attend again, hopefully next time will be one of their indoor events that are more interactive!

We skipped the add-on packages and I made them myself. Because it didn’t state exactly what was included in each bag, I was worried that we would end up getting toys and activities that we already had. Instead, I put together a bag of dinosaur items for the kids to share.

See below for what I put together for the kids!
