My Fresh Salsa Recipe

Salsa and tortilla chips are two things that you will ALWAYS find at our house. We’ve found a few fresh salsas that we really love at our local farmers market but sometimes I like to make my own at home too, using this fresh salsa recipe!

This recipe is a pico de gallo, chunky style salsa that is so fresh and delicious! Not only would it make a great appetizer served with tortilla chips but it can also be used as a topping for tacos, nachos and so much more.

I’m not going to lie, making this can be a bit time consuming because of all the vegetables that need to be chopped. Feel free to use a food processor instead! When I am running short on time, I like to use my Cuisinart Food Processor. Gently pulse each item until it’s the size that you like.

Be careful when chopping your jalapenos! I like to chop mine at the very end so there is less time with the spicy juice on the cutting board and knife. Feel free to wear gloves when chopping too!

Typically I use both Roma tomatoes and either on-the-vine or heirloom tomatoes. Roma tomatoes hold their shape well and don’t break down too much. On-the-vine and heirloom tomatoes are softer and break down more. Using a combination of both will give your salsa the best flavor and texture.

What You Will Need

4 Roma tomatoes

4 on-the-vine or heirloom tomatoes

large red bell pepper

large green pepper

medium red onion

lime

bunch of cilantro

garlic clove, minced

1-2 jalapenos

2 tbsp. olive oil

1 1/2 tsp. kosher salt

I typically use one large jalapeno with the seeds removed. This still gives the salsa a little kick. For a spicier salsa, use two jalapenos and keep the seeds in!

This salsa will stay fresh in an air-tight container for a few days in the fridge – and the flavor actually gets even better after sitting overnight!

How to Make Fresh Salsa

Begin by thoroughly washing all of your produce.

Chop the tomatoes, peppers, onions into a small dice. Add to a large mixing bowl.

Remove cilantro leaves from their stems. Roughly chop and add into bowl.

Mince garlic clove and make into paste using the side of your knife. Add into mixing bowl.

Add olive oil, salt and the juice of one lime into the bowl.

Toss all of the ingredients to combine.

Serve alongside your favorite tortilla chips.

Enjoy!
