Eleven years ago, my (then) boyfriend and I spent our first weekend away together at the Whiteface Lodge. Six years later we were married there!
Now, all these years later, we still try to visit at least twice a year. Our weekends away look a little different, now that we have our two children with us, but this resort really feels like home after all of these years!
The holiday season is an especially good time to visit The Whiteface Lodge. The resort is decorated beautifully for the holidays and the crown jewel is the enormous Christmas tree located in their main restaurant, KANU.
Some of the on-site activities include a family game room, bowling alley, fitness center, movie theater, indoor/outdoor pool, spa, and Kamp Kanu.
Located in the heart of the Adirondacks, The Whiteface Lodge is surrounded with activities that would please just about anyone. The Lodge is just minutes from Whiteface Mountain, the Lake Placid Olympic Sports Complex and Museum, shopping, and much more.
But don’t feel as though you need to venture out to find something to do, you could easily spend your entire vacation exploring all the resort has to offer without ever having to leave. The Whiteface Lodge is truly a magical place!

Weather permitting, you can roam the hotel grounds on cross country skis or snow shoes or use some of the complimentary ice skates for a couple of laps around the ice skating rink.
Afterwards, warm up with some hot chocolate at Peak 47 or by making s’mores by the nightly campfire. Adults can also enjoy a specialty cocktail and cigar at one of the lean-tos located in the courtyard.
The rooms are spacious yet cozy. The Whiteface Lodge offers one, two and three bedroom suites. Each suite features a fully equipped kitchen, cast iron fireplace, and a private balcony.

There is so much to see and do in Lake Placid and here are just a few of my favorites:
Whiteface Mountain – Ski, snowboard, or just hang out in the lounge.
Lake Placid Bob Sled Experience – try your hand at this Olympic sport.
Adirondack Sleigh Rides – Bundle up and get into the holiday spirit with a horse drawn sleigh ride through John Brown Farm.
Dog Sled Rides – Kids will especially love being pulled across the frozen-over Mirror Lake by mushing dogs.
Mirror Lake Toboggan Chute – This converted 30 foot high ski jump will give you a rush of adrenaline as you race down the chute and across the lake in a traditional toboggan.
KANU – Located at Whiteface Lodge, this stunning restaurant has a menu that changes seasonally and always features local products.
Smoke Signals – This restaurant is perfect for a laid-back BBQ dinner while enjoying the view of Mirror Lake.
Liquids & Solids – Deliciously crafted cocktails and a food menu based on the best local produce and meats.
The Interlaken Inn & Restaurant – This restaurant is just steps away from the shops of Lake Placid and perfect for romantic dinner for two.
Maggie’s Pub – Located at The Lake Placid Lodge, this cozy restaurant serves delicious comfort food and specialty cocktails. Diners at this restaurant (and hotel in general) must be 12 years or older.
Lake Placid is absolutely beautiful! I hope that you get your chance to spend Christmas at the Whiteface Lodge in Lake Placid, New York!
