Most nights are the typical routine.

Dinner time. Bath time. Story time. Bed time.

Turning an ordinary night into a night with special plans gives everyone something to look forward to. It’s a great way to create fun memories without even leaving the house.

Check out some of our favorite at home family fun night ideas below!

Nerf Blast Fight & Ice Cream Sundaes

Set up barriers and hiding spots in your living room. Put out ammo refill centers. Create teams and go for it!

Once everyone has had their fill, have everything needed for a make-your-own sundae bar. Ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream, sprinkles, cherries, etc..

Forts & Constellations

Set up a small tent or build a fort using furniture and blankets. Have fun making animal shadows with flashlights or use a constellation projector to watch stars on the ceiling. Do all of this while snacking on some of your favorite snacks.

This constellation projector was a gift and we use it all of the time. The kids love the stars projected on the ceiling when they are falling asleep.

Board Game & Appetizers

Get out your favorite board game and make a few of your favorite appetizers. Our kids love the games Operation, Mouse Trap and Shark Bite. We also just added this Transformers Monopoly to the mix and it’s a game changer!

Either make some of your favorite homemade appetizers or get a few ready made items at your local grocery store. When I am too busy to cook, I grab a few things from Trader Joe’s frozen section like their spinach & artichoke dip, soft pretzels and mozzarella sticks!

Movie Night

A classic. Watch a movie that has just come out or a family favorite. Pretend like you are out to the theater and have your favorite snacks and drinks to enjoy. We always make popcorn, nacho chips & cheese, candy and drinks. Serving them on a tray makes it feel a little extra special.

Everyone cuddle up on the couch with a bunch of blankets and enjoy your at-home theater experience!

Paint & Sip

Set this up just like it would be if you were attending an art class. Canvases on easels, paints on pallet and different brushes. Either try to recreate a painting or have everyone create their own masterpiece. Make a cheese plate and enjoy a glass of wine (sparkling apple juice for the kids!).

Christmas Anytime of Year

Bake a batch of your favorite Christmas cookies, have hot chocolate with marshmallows and watch a Christmas movie. No matter what month it is, Christmas is always fun to relive. But beware, if your kids are anything like mine, they will take this as a sign that it is time to start working on their new Christmas list!

Some of our favorite Christmas movies are Elf, the Santa Clause, and The Grinch.

Dance Party

Get out a mini strobe light and glow sticks. Either put on some of your favorite kid-friendly music or, if you have a smart TV, find some kids dance videos on YouTube. Turn the lights down and dance the night away. This is great exercise and is also a really fun way to let loose.

Conversation Cards & Take Out

Order your favorite takeout (we always order Chinese food!) and spend the evening connecting through conversation. Learn each others thoughts, likes and dislikes, and even concerns or fears. This is a great way to get your kids talking and learn something about them that you might not yet know!

Minute to Win It

There are many fun games for you to try out that can be put together using things that you probably already have around the house. Or try out this kit! Try cup stacking, puddle jumper, penny stacking, egg carton pong and more. A little competitive fun!

Make Your Own Pizza and Build Legos

This can be as simple or get as creative as you would like. Completely start from scratch and make your own pizza crust or buy premade pizza dough. Everyone makes their own personal size creation to enjoy while putting together a Lego kit.

This is your opportunity to put together that 500+ piece LEGO set that you have been putting off….

Fondue Night

Try savory, sweet or both! Make a cheese fondue and dip baguette, cooked mini potatoes, slices of cooked kielbasa, broccoli, or anything else that you like with your fondue.

If you prefer to have it for dessert, make a chocolate fondue and dip strawberries, marshmallows, brownie bites, pretzels, banana slices or cubes of pound cake. This fun and interactive meal is always a hit!

Indoor Picnic

Spread out a blanket on the living room floor and pack a picnic basket full of your favorite foods. For most kids, unpacking the basket of goodies is the best part. Sit and enjoy lemonade in jars, sandwiches, fruit, brownies, or whatever else you would normally enjoy during a picnic outing!

Breakfast for Dinner

Get your pajamas on and make your family favorite breakfast to eat while watching cartoons. In our house it’s Mickey Mouse waffles, bacon, home fries and fruit salad!

Watch your favorite Disney movie or favorite cartoons and pretend like it’s Sunday morning!

Wellness Night

Get out some yoga mats, throw on some workout clothes and put on a kids yoga class or exercise class (there are many options to choose from on YouTube). After your workout, make fruit salad, smoothies or smoothie bowls to enjoy.

Try out My Favorite Acai Bowls for a fun treat after your yoga class!

Fireplace Campfire and S’Mores

Use what you have with this one. We have a gas fireplace in our family room. Light up your fireplace or find a yule-log type fire on your computer, phone or smart TV. If the weather is nice, have a fire in the backyard.

Make s’mores or bake a s’more like recipe and sit around enjoying each others company. Look at photo albums, watch family movies, or tell fun stories.

Can’t make s’mores inside? Make this S’mores Snack Mix instead!
